Fundraising Updates

This week has been a big one for us in terms of fundraisers - we've held three separate events within the past seven days. Some were sucessful, and some were not so much, but thanks to the help and generosity of a few good friends, we made it through the week.

Starting last Tuesday, April 7, Paddington Bear made his way around campus, visiting professors and other Bryant staff along his journey. As our mascot (he's originally from Peru, if you didn't know), Paddington helped raise a total of about $150 from staff members at Bryant, and even made friends with President Machtley. Check out the thoughtful not we recieved with Machtley's donation...

This Easter weekend we also hosted a Pancake Brunch at Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Smithfield.

We were up early working hard to make sure everything was perfect for the brunch. It was really too bad that nobody showed up...

Luckily, a very nice anonymous couple saw one of the 400 or so flyers we distributed around town, and stopped by to keep us company and tip us well. Even better, pastor Nichols took so much pity on us that he offered us a donation himself.

As it turned out, this donation was $90 in pennies, so we spent the remainder of our Saturday afternoon rolling coins and making friends at the Stop and Shop Coinstar machine. We owe you big time, pastor...

This week we also got some support from Bryant's First Lady, Kati Machtley. Since Monday we have been selling Dunkin Donuts baked goods and coffee in the Rotunda. Mrs. Machtley was on her way into the office yesterday and was nice enough to buy a donut and pose for a photo op.

Although we're still counting our revenues, we estimate that we're somewhere near the halfway point of our goal of $1,200. Thanks to everyone for your support, and stay tuned for more updates!

Donations

Although we have recieved a substantial amount of money from Bryant University's Special Initiatives Fund (Thanks, SIC!), the costs of travelling to Peru are considerable, and we are required by the school to fundraise a portion of these costs.

We are gratefully accepting donations to our cause at the following address:

Community Service Trip to Peru

Center for Student Involvement, Bryant University

Please make checks payable to Bryant University.

We're also attempting to get a nonprofit paypal account, but this is proving to be more difficult than we originally thought. We'll keep you updated.

Also, we're organizing a number of fundraisers to benefit the trip. Here they are:

April 6-11: Paddington Bear makes his way around Bryant!
April 13, 14, 15: Dunkin Donuts sale in the Bryant Rotunda, 7:30am-11am
April 11: Pancake Brunch at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Smithfield, 9:30am-12:30pm
May 1: Donations collected at Shaw's supermarket in North Providence, 8am-4pm
